Oberon is a delicious summer wheat beer and is commonly served with an orange wedge.The first bar in Ann Arbor to release the seasonal wheat beer was Ashley's restaurant and bar, located at 338 South State St. in Ann Arbor. The beer release party, which happened Sunday March 28th, included a Bell's representative emceeing the event, free Bell's merchandise for customers, and a crowning of the queen of Oberon. Donning a royal cape and staff, the queen of Oberon was randomly selected and crowned around 11:30 pm. She kicked off the event by taking the first sip of Oberon at the stroke of midnight. Patrons were instructed to bow to her whenever she passed.
Sidetrack, located at 56 East Cross Street in Ypsilanti, also released Oberon at midnight that Sunday. Patrons could enjoy $2 pints of any Bell's beer on tap starting midnight.
The official Oberon release date is March 29th. Beer distributor, Rave Associates, celebrated Oberon day by giving out free Bell's merchandise to patrons at Ann Arbor bars such as; Old Town, The Arena, Ashley's, and Bar Louie. One can now enjoy a pint of Oberon at these bars, and many other bars, in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.
