How People Feel about Michigan's Smoking Ban, and the Electronic Cigarette
Ann Arbor, Mich. - Dec. 18, 2009, Governor Granholm signed a smoking ban for all of Michigan, called the Dr. Ron Davis Law. The ban which is set to take action May 1s., prohibits smoking in several public areas such as; work places, bars, bowling alleys, restaurants, and even restaurant patio’s.
"Michigan joins 37 states that have already enacted similar bans." Stated journalist Nathan Bomey, writer for annarbor.com.
“The majority of Michigan workers will have a smoke-free work environment, and there will be less cases of cancer, asthma, heart disease, the list goes on and on…” said Judy Stewart in Bomey's article on annarbor.com. Stewart is a spokeswoman for the Campaign for Smokefree Air and director of state government relations for the Great Lakes Division of the American Cancer Society.

Mofo Karaoke
Ann Arbor, Mich. - Lights, microphones, bubble machine. Mofo Karaoke provides great Ypsilanti entertainment every Thursday at The Elbow Room, located at 6 South Washington Street.
Mofo Karaoke is just what you'd expect from a bar putting on a karaoke event, but better. Mofo karaoke comes with a dj that takes requests, books filled with hundreds of songs to choose from, and a bar with affordable drinks. In addition to that, Mofo Karaoke is free for anyone 21 and older, it costs 5 dollars for people between 18 and 20 years of age.
An article at online Ann Arbor Observer, by Charmie Gholson, accurately describes a scene at Mofo Karaoke: "People are dancing, and the place is jumping. A kid with green hair wearing a bandolier—complete with long, shiny, pointy bullets—sings a song I don’t recognize; it’s something from the 1980s, I think."
Most of the clientele that go to Mofo Karaoke are people in their 20's. This is not always the case however. In the past few year celebrities have graced the Elbow Room to attend Mofo Karaoke.
"Juliette Lewis took over the Thursday night MoFo Karaoke, and Eve crashed at bartender Andy Garris' house," noted Steve Pepple, in an article on mlive.com.
Current readers for Current Readers Choice awards voted Mofo Kareoke as the runner up for best karaoke in town.

Oberon On Tap
Ann Arbor, Mich. - The beginning of spring marks a turning point for beer makers and beer lovers. One of the most beloved beers that Michigan has to offer, was just released late March. The beer I'm talk
ing about is Bell's Oberon, brewed and bottled at Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo Michigan. Oberon is a delicious summer wheat beer and is commonly served with an orange wedge.
The first bar in Ann Arbor to release the seasonal wheat beer was Ashley's restaurant and bar, located at 338 South State St. in Ann Arbor. The beer release party, which happened Sunday March 28th, included a Bell's representative emceeing the event, free Bell's merchandise for customers, and a crowning of the queen of Oberon. Donning a royal cape and staff, the queen of Oberon was randomly selected and crowned around 11:30 pm. She kicked off the event by taking the first sip of Oberon at the stroke of midnight. Patrons were instructed to bow to her whenever she passed.
Sidetrack, located at 56 East Cross Street in Ypsilanti, also released Oberon at midnight that Sunday. Patrons could enjoy $2 pints of any Bell's beer on tap starting midnight.
The official Oberon release date is March 29th. Beer distributor, Rave Associates, celebrated Oberon day by giving out free Bell's merchandise to patrons at Ann Arbor bars such as; Old Town, The Arena, Ashley's, and Bar Louie. One can now enjoy a pint of Oberon at these bars, and many other bars, in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.

The Packard Pub
Ann Arbor, Mich.- A few nights ago my partner and I decided to go to the newly opened Packard Pub, located at 640 Packard St, on the corner of State and Packard St, in Ann Arbor Michigan. Whether you are or aren't familiar with this area of town, this bar is the only bar within short walking distance. This part of town is also highly populated, mostly by U of M students, which means there is potential for this bar to become a neighborhood bar for many living in the area.
Because there are so many students living in this area, the bar has bouncers that check ID's upon entering, this means you have to be 21 or older. According to Kyle Miller, the owner of the Packard Pub, brought to you by an article in The Michigan Daily, “The first night we got six fake IDs,” Miller said. “We got a heck of a security team here, and they have a lot of experience.”
Once inside the pub,one could easily notice a strong U of M influence. The walls are painted Maize and Blue, there is U of M parafanallia throughout the bar, and most of it's patrons looked liked they were college students.
The definition of a pub means that it's both a restaurant and bar. The pub definitely felt more like a bar than a restaurant, however I got there around 11 pm. The pub not only provides many beer options, it also has a full menu at a reasonable pub fare.
"Of the 20 taps, half are microbrews, with six of those being Michigan-brewed beers." Referring to Packard Pub's beer selection according to article on Ann Arbor.com.
The Packard Pub is definitely trying to appeal to a sports enthusiasts with it's 14 flat screen televisions.
"By the fall, Miller anticipates installing three large projector screen TVs as a new football season begins, as well as opening at 7 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays to provide breakfast for hungry fans."According to an article by Ann Arbor.com.
To find out more about the Packard Pub visit their website, which I provided a link for in first paragraph of this story. In the mean time enjoy my Youtube.com video below.
